Mother and Child
elizabeth house
The Elizabeth House program serves the individual and group needs of residents while enabling them to achieve their long-term personal and career goals. Over the course of three years in BHI's Elizabeth House program, participants receive two years of sheltered care and one year of continued guidance through case management. During these program years, trained staff members help residents grow into independent individuals by teaching them properly to care for their children, employ basic life skills and plan for the future. To fortify self-sufficiency, BHI's program helps residents obtain a better education, vocational certifications, and job training. BHI's Elizabeth House program is the only transitional housing program in Northern Virginia to offer teenage homeless mothers a comprehensive program for complete development.

Our program goals are to:
  • provide a safe and stable supervised living environment;
  • reduce repeat pregnancies;
  • implement mandatory enrollment in an educational or vocational training program;
  • promote career development;
  • build leadership skills;
  • encourage self-sufficiency; and
  • develop positive life choices that enhance children's health.
