History
A group of women parishioners from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church, moved by the plight of homeless young mothers and their babies, founded BHI in 1988 as a non-sectarian faith-based community service agency. While working closely with the Arlington Housing Corporation, the founding board members designed a program that provides both safe housing and the opportunity for personal development. In 2001, BHI's transitional housing program was designated a "Second Chance Home Program" as provided under welfare reform legislation in 1996.
